Deep Listening is a practice developed by pioneering composer Pauline Oliveros to enhance and expand listening abilities and to encourage creative work. The practice includes bodywork, sonic meditations, and interactive performance, as well as listening to the sounds of daily life, nature, one’s own thoughts, imagination, and dreams. It cultivates a heightened awareness of the sonic environment, both external and internal, and promotes experimentation, improvisation, collaboration, playfulness, and other creative skills vital to personal and community growth.
In this 3-part workshop, cellist Mere Harrach will lead an introduction to Oliveros’ Deep Listening, along with its application for improvisation. This class is suitable for all instruments and ability levels.
Dates: Feb. 21st, 27th, and March 7th from 10-11am
Location: St. Louis String Collective; 3530 Greenwood Blvd
Registration closes Saturday, February 14th
We will be filming each class and the videos will be made available to participants at the end of the session.
